“Treasure” … I wrote this song with @_claudiajmoreno a while back on a ministry trip to Chicago. Crazy how much these songs that I’ve written in the past minister to me so much after having gone through these past six months of disorientation, heartbreak, and the sudden end of an era. I like the Spanish version better. Lyrics in comments, let me know what you think. Oh, and well I just woke up when I decided to share this …. Messsssy hair- sorry mom.

Thoughts after my Last set as worship leader at IHOPKC
This is My last week leading at IHOPKC. 3/26/24-3/30/24 Tue 6am, Wed 8am, Thur 6am/10am, Fri 12pm, Sat 8am Final TEAM set will be GOOD FRIDAY 12pm. I’ll do a DEVO Saturday 8am to say goodbye to that stage. So grateful for the last 15 years.
This is My last week leading at IHOPKC. 3/26/24-3/30/24 Tue 6am, Wed 8am, Thur 6am/10am, Fri 12pm, Sat 8am Final TEAM set will be GOOD FRIDAY 12pm. I’ll do a DEVO Saturday 8am to say goodbye to that stage. So grateful for the last 15 years. Wouldn’t trade a moment. Sad it had to end this way. After the worst of it all, it has become clear that I must step down. Pray for us. We don’t know what is next. All we know is that there’s a bright future for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his radiant global church, and the priesthood of all believers. There is an increase of the Fear of The Lord so may God grant to us vibrant and accountable communities that help all of us walk that out not wane. May new songs emerge with fear and trembling - ANTHEMS of wholehearted devotion to Jesus and his ways. As the IHOPKC era begins to fade, may new lamp stands and global lighthouses be lit that glorify Christ without mixture. All the beauty we have touched and more. May innocence be restored and light shine brightly as the end of an era finalizes. May we all treasure what we have received from heaven and cast away anything that easily entangles us in sin. It is time for a new beginning- none of us know what that will look like. My prayer for when the sandstorm settles, is that ALL our hearts would still burn for Christ Jesus resulting in wholehearted obedience, weep when we talk about his Word resulting in happy holiness, our souls delight in his presence resulting in times of sustained corporate/private worship, and pursue healthy Christ-centered friendships/relationships where we can stir one another to holy faith as The Day approaches. May God apprehend us, bend us, and mend us into the radiant bride the Father promised the Son by the Spirit.

15 years ago today, I went to my very first social event in Kansas City after moving from Indiana to be part of IHOPKC. It was a Russian Christmas Party. When I got there, I found out that a close friend of one of the hosts was moving to Kansas City to attend an internship at IHOPKC. It happened to be her 19th birthday, so this party became a surprise birthday party as well. Not knowing who would walk through the door, I stepped out of the way not wanting to startle this “stranger” with my unfamiliar face. As the door opened, I laid eyes on Elise Elliott Cervantes for the first time. She was thoroughly surprised by it all. She had just finished a long drive from Decatur, Texas to step into a new chapter of her life. I eventually walked up to her and briefly introduced myself not knowing that she would be the woman that my heart had long prayed for. I remember the months that followed, as I led worship in the Prayer Room, how provoked I was by her pursuit of God. She would sit for hours pray reading through her bible only getting up to quickly refill her water bottle (still a thing). I even caught her tears flowing, touched by truth impacting her heart (also still a thing), and watched how she interacted with friends in the coffee shop next door, lighting up the world with her kind smile, her penetrating gaze—her beauty (definitely still a thing). During those months, I became acquainted with her incredible family and learned more about this remarkable young woman. Having never dated before, I wasn’t sure what was going on in my heart. Then when her birthday came again I felt to gift her something meaningful. I wanted to create a context where we could keep talking without it being awkward or obvious that I was interested in her. One of the biggest years of my life. 1) I started leading worship in the GPR again cervantesband.com 2) we were surprised by God with the Asbury outpouring and I was called on to lead worship at the end 3) We moved into our new house after 6 months living out of suitcases 4) we continued plowing in California 5) we joined over 100 million intercessors for Israel 6) I resigned as director of the schools after 4th round of graduates… congrats @joyyy_ann 7) I got to record in a dream studio with friends 8) Korea won my heart during David’s tent 9)We released an album after 10 years with @somosfieldhouse 10) We began to walk through the hardest crisis our spiritual family @ihopkc.worship has endured. Not to mention all the wonderful family trips, crazy renovation projects, ministry trips to join @cawillbesaved @sowkona @antiochwaco @zion_cc @vozchurch @tccikr and many others, research retreats, and of course our gender reveal party for our #4 kid!! It’s a girl btw. So much to be thankful for. In spite of challenges, I choose to be grateful and to testify to God’s goodness. Happy new year!!!
